CCDC Dance Centre is the former Education and Outreach Department of the City Contemporary Dance Company. It aims to develop as an arts organisation that promotes dance as an art form through extensive dance courses, outreach programmes and podium dance performances.
Dance Courses
The Centre serves over 2,000 students a week around the year. Dance courses range from Ballet, Modern Dance, Jazz, Chinese Dance which stand in the classical mainstream, and to alternatives such as GyrokinesisTM, Tap, Yoga, Partnering and other specialised advanced-level courses. It provides one-stop and diversified trainings to amateur dancers. The Centre also provides dance courses that are tailor-made for children.
Outreach Programmes
Apart from offering dance courses, the Centre also put forward educational programmes for youth and community in the past 15 years. It pioneered the "School Modern Dance Animateur Scheme" with the former Regional Council (currently with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department) in 1992. Over 5000 students have benefited from the scheme before. Some of them are now studying dancing in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and some of them have become professional dancers or instructors.
Recently, the Centre is active in designing arts courses with several secondary schools within their academic curriculum. It is hoped to bring in the art form of Dance to the traditional arts teaching.
Partnership Programme
Dance Centre establishes a close and long term working relationship between its venue management and independent artists. It collaborates with the arts community in organising programmes and to provide space, environment and resources to facilitate artistic creation. With such, the Centre promotes community arts and to explore its possibilities.
Podium Dance Performances
In the past 10 years, the Centre introduced the art of Dance to community with its Environmental Dance Project. Now, a youth dance programme called WuDaoQingNian takes the lead to draw talents from community through audition and training, then to return to community to perform. The group even brought to show their achievement to Guangzhou and Taipei last year.
