Born in Malaysia, Chan Yi Jing started his ballet training with Ms Loh Pit Fong and later Mdm Katy Cheong Thing Kin and Wong Fook Choon at the age of 16. He joined the Selangor Kwangsi Association Dance Group in 1990. He was awarded a scholarship in 1994 to study modern dance at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts where he graduated with a BFA (Dance). He joined CCDC in 1997.

He received the Hong Kong Dance Alliance Dance Award in 2002 and 2007.
