City Contemporary Dance Festival 2021 – Danzcation<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n

A vigorous and creative line-up of programmes
\nLocal contemporary dance at its best<\/p>\n

City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) is partnering with Freespace, West Kowloon Cultural District to co-present the City Contemporary Dance Festival 2021<\/strong> (the Festival) as part of the CCDC in Residence<\/em> programme. Under the leadership of CCDC\u2019s newly-appointed Artistic Director Yuri NG, the Festival presents an extraordinary array of programmes under the theme of \u201cDanzcation<\/em>\u201d. Although social restriction measures have confined us to this city, CCDC sees this as an opportunity to promote contemporary dance by offering a dynamic experience for local audiences. Through the different perspectives of participating artists, the programmes focus on the relationships between self-identity, the city and one\u2019s hometown.<\/p>\n

The Festival will be held from 13 to 21 November 2021 at Freespace, WKCD. Tickets are now available at West Kowloon Cultural District or online.<\/p>\n

The opening performance of \u201cDanzcation<\/em>\u201d, Home Sweat Home<\/em><\/strong>, is an original contemporary dance and music theatre production. It is choreographed and directed by Artistic Director Yuri NG and features veteran musical talents Rick LAU and Anna LO, the core creative team behind the sell-out cabaret shows LauZone<\/em> and Tri Ka Tsai. Home Sweat Home<\/em> is also performed by some of CCDC\u2019s finest dance artists and musicians. The playful and entertaining show will resonate with local audiences and inspire them to think about their idea of \u2018home\u2019.<\/p>\n

Continuing this exploration of \u2018home\u2019, dance artist Ergao from Guangzhou presents Kung Hei Fat Choy<\/em><\/strong>, a dance theatre about an intimate dialogue about family ties and nostalgia. Ergao is well-known for his quirky and humorous choreographic style. The performance consists of familiar landscapes and images of Guangdong. Kung Hei Fat Choy<\/em> premiered in Switzerland in 2019 and was also performed at the Guangdong Times Museum. The nostalgic feelings one feels after leaving one\u2019s hometown has touched the hearts of many. The above two productions will be performed in The Box, Freespace.<\/p>\n

The Room Service<\/em><\/strong> comprises three otherworldly dance performances by local emerging choreographers: Sudhee LIAO, Alice MA and CHAN Wai-lok and will be staged at The Room. The triple-bill performance presents a series of cutting-edge contemplations on identity, power and sex. In addition, De-islandsation<\/em><\/strong>, choreographed by CCDC Resident Artist Noel PONG and performed by members of WuDaoQingNian (a talent development scheme at CCDC Dance Centre), will showcase the potential of young dancers and the possibilities of contemporary dance at The Terrace.<\/p>\n

In addition to these performances, the Festival also features an exhibition, Me, a Man<\/em><\/strong>, created by independent dance artist HUI Ka-chun. Inspired by the novel by Albert Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus<\/em>, Hui\u2019s exhibition is an immersive experience that documents his thoughts about himself and the meaning of life through installation arts and dance videos.<\/p>\n

Last but not least, the Festival includes two parent and child friendly upcycling workshops<\/strong>: \u2018A Date with Preloved Clothing\u2019<\/em> and \u2018<\/em>DIY Trash-to-Treasure Crafts<\/em><\/a>\u2019<\/em>. Participants will give old garments and materials a second life by converting them into new outfits and props.<\/p>\n
