From 16mm film to digital, over 100 films spark a vibrant dialogue between performance and moving image, choreography and media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row enable_arrows_animation=&#8221;no&#8221;][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=&#8221;50373&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]After two years hiatus, Jumping Frames 2025, presented by the City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) returns with a new theme \u201cTime Machine\u201d this year, featuring screenings, lecture performance, and workshops, where movement transcends time through shifting media.\u00a0 <strong><u>The festival will take place from November 13 to 23, 2025, at the Eaton Hong Kong and Broadway Cinematheque.\u00a0 Tickets are now available at the Broadway Cinematheque website, its box office, and through art-mate.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The past is the future &#8211; a century-spanning journey through dance on screen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The opening films \u2013 \u201cJumping Frames Time Machine\u201d<\/strong> transport the audience to the festival\u2019s own genesis.\u00a0 Through 4 dance films from 2004 \u2013 <em>Alienation<\/em>, <em>Ambiguity<\/em>, <em>dancescape@margin@beijing<\/em>, and <em>10 Nights Rehearsal Note<\/em> &#8211; curator Elysa WENDI revisited the inaugural impulse of the festival, returning to the early dance film experiments and re-experiencing the cityscape of Hong Kong, capturing the dancers across two decades with their movements echoing through time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>EXPANDED SPACE: S<em>ometimes I See the Future<\/em><\/strong> by CHOY Ka Fai, co-produced by tanzhaus nrw follows.\u00a0 The lecture performance explores the worlds of cosplay and digital entertainment, discussing the notions of telepresence in the age of extreme self, and the possibility of future bodies through virtual avatars.\u00a0 This adaptation is supported by the Eaton Hong Kong Residency in collaboration with Jumping Frames, incorporating a virtual and philosophical aspect to this year&#8217;s festival.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Expanding International Art House Cinema Landscape<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Spectrums: International Art House Showcase <\/strong>continues the dialogues with International film festivals, including Ann Arbor Film Festival of USA, POOL \u2013 MOVEMENT ART FILM Festival Berlin of Germany, Fiver Dance Film Festival of Spain, and Arkipel Jakarta International Documentary Experimental Film Festival of Indonesia, and more.\u00a0 LIGHT CONE of France will be screening a selection of 16mm films.\u00a0 Curators of the four festivals will also appear at the screening, engaging direct discussion with the audience to share their curatorial concepts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another highlight, <strong>International Feature Film Selections<\/strong>, features masterworks by arthouse auteurs including Derek Jarman, Carlos Saura, and Patrick Bokanowski\u2019s celebrated 35mm classic <em>L\u2019Ange<\/em>, which had been screening non-stop in a Tokyo arthouse cinema for almost a decade.\u00a0 Hong Kong Premiere includes Su Hui Yu\u2019s <em>The Trio Hall<\/em>,\u00a0 renowned Swedish music video director\u2019s <em>DuEls, <\/em>Luka Yuanyuan Yang\u2019s documentary <em>Chinatown Cha Cha<\/em>, and Asif Kapadia\u2019s <em>Creature<\/em>, showcasing the cross-cultural landscape of dance on screen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>From 16mm experimental films to Digital: Artistic Visions across generations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Artist Collection<\/strong> features works by TERAYAMA Shuji, Ellen PAU, Katrina McPHERSON, and Mouvement Perp\u00e9tuel.\u00a0 Pivotal Japanese New Wave filmmaker TERAYAMA Shuji has created numerous surreal and experimental films, and his selected works for the screening will be shown in 16mm;\u00a0 Hong Kong video art pioneer Ellen PAU has significantly shaped Hong Kong&#8217;s visual culture, with her edgy aesthetic concepts; Among them, video artist Katrina McPHERSON and Marlene Millar\/ Philip Szporer from Mouvement Perp\u00e9tuel will be leading workshops for the Festival &#8211; <em>Dancing Through the Frame \u2013 a dance film workshop<\/em> with Katrina, and <em>Collaboration in Creation workshop <\/em>with Marlene and Philip.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sino-Phone Focus Debuts: Showcasing the rich diversity of dance film shorts from the Chinese-speaking Region<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The new curatorial section <strong>Sino-Phone Focus<\/strong> highlights dance film shots from the Chinese-speaking regions, presenting the cultural expressions and creative vitality of Sino-phone dance imagery.\u00a0 With 2 focuses: <strong>Body and Landscape<\/strong> and <strong>Playful Entanglements<\/strong>, works span regions and generations, unfolding diverse styles and narratives. Among which, <em>Loop\/Hole<\/em> <em>(Excerpts)<\/em> and <em>Once Upon a Time in Rain<\/em> are launching their world premiere at the Festival, marking a new page in Sino-phone dance cinema.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Competition Section \u2013 Showcasing the experimentation and potential of emerging directors\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The competition has received 581 entries from around the world, with a total of 19 outstanding works selected for screening during the festival.\u00a0 This year, the <strong>Jumping Frames Competition<\/strong> offers six major awards, including the\u00a0<strong>Jumping Frames International Award<\/strong>, the\u00a0<strong>Jumping Frames Asia Award, <\/strong><strong>Expanded Frames Award<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Student Award<\/strong>, and the\u00a0<strong>Audience Award<\/strong>\u00a0determined by live audience voting, along with a\u00a0<strong>Ringo Chan Award<\/strong>\u00a0dedicated to Hong Kong-based filmmakers starting this year, to support and celebrate the power of local artistic creation and pay tribute to Ringo for his contribution to the Festival.<\/p>\n<p>This year, Elysa WENDI was again invited as Festival Curator, and for the fourth year, co-organizing with Eaton Hotel Hong Kong.
