Days are Numbered Is there any age when we don’t have secrets? Are they marks of life experience? Or, are they stories full of troubles and challenges? After their carefree youth, where they followed their hearts fearlessly and impulsively, will the three choreographers focus on connecting with older generations or pursuing dialogue with future generations? Or will it be both? Will it be neither? Listen Carefully by Bruce Wong Bruce explores the use of sound in this piece by experimenting with iron bar percussion. When sounds are no longer secondary to the performance, will they trigger something else from the audience? Luck-quacka Gatherings involving a huge extended family can easily become a traumatic experience for the little ones. There are fussing relatives, spoiled children and the unconventional behaviour of the black sheep of the family. There’s also Grand Uncle No. 7 who is asking for everyone’s help to look for missing pieces for his retirement handicraft project. With any luck, it could be the perfect gift to mark the arrival of his first grandniece. The Room Service The Danzcation Room Service delivers three other-worldly dance fantasies by emerging choreographers The Room Service comprises short three works by emerging Hong Kong-based choreographers Sudhee Liao, Alice Ma and Chan Wai-lok – a series of cutting-edge contemplations on identity, power, technology and sex. Each work has been developed through CCDC Dance Center’s creative platform “2nd Stage 2021”. The platform offers young artists the opportunity to extend their creativity by reviewing and restaging original new dance works. Simulacra In this powerfully poignant, quiet work Sudhee Liao dances with a virtual archetype in a tiny, confined space. Contemplating the nature of identity and relationships, the work explores what it means for a flesh and blood dancer to interact with a digital reproduction of herself, and how we connect with ourselves and others when virtual realities are an everyday part of our lives. Creative Team Choreography and Performance: Sudhee LIAO Visual Arts Design: Dan HARRIS Music: Chaconne, Johann Sebastian BACH, Jascha HEIFETZ I don’t mean it Dressed in an executive suit and heels, and standing at a speaker’s lectern, Alice Ma explores the relationship between truth and lies, words and actions, and power and violence. Breathtaking and disturbing, wild and exquisitely controlled, this thought-provoking work will etch itself into your mind and stay with you long after Ma has left the stage. Creative Team Choreography and Performance: Alice MA Music Composition and Sound Design: LEUNG Po-wing {POV } In this provocative piece, Chan Wai-lok, Lee Ka-hei and Li Ka-man invite you into the private sphere of their “Love Action Home Movie”. Exploring the line between performance and reality, voyeurism and exhibitionism, the work forces the audience to contemplate the nature of watching vs spying, being present vs being involved. Kung Hei Fat Choy An autobiographical dance theatre reflection on family, nostalgia and homesickness Kung Hei Fat Choy is a multimedia, genre-bending, dance theatre performance that creates an intimate space for personal recollections and candid sharing. Since his childhood in Guangzhou in the 80s, mainland dancer Ergao’s life has taken him on a very different path to that of his parents. In this autobiographical production, Ergao daydreams nostalgically over a solitary rice-cooker hotpot for one, reflecting on his relationship with his father and his hometown through home videos, musical memories and recollections. A story of a life, a story of changing times, changing landscapes, shared memories and reconciliation, Kung Hei Fat Choy is a quirky, touching exploration of home, identity, family ties and belonging. Kung Hei Fat Choy premiered in Switzerland in 2019 and was performed at the Guangdong Times Museum the same year. M.U.D. - Movement UnDefined 2022 Work-in-progress Video Available Now As stated by the company’s artistic director Yuri Ng, “The situation we are facing may seem disappointing… M.U.D. hopes to break these constrains, to rediscover possibilities in contemporary dance, while inviting audience to witness artistic exploration other than theatre production. What is dance? We hope to explore this question together, to experience “unboundedness”. The Cantonese pronunciation of “乜” (mat1) can be a blank to be filled in, or a meaning to be defined, implying infinite possibilities. The artists of the M.U.D. platform hope to open up a wider scope of imagination for the audience through their creations in an environment full of constraints. It is like transforming stubborn rocks into fertile soil to nourish new lives. Artists from M.U.D. have been researching and creating in the past several months. They have finally arrived at the transit - Work-in-progress Videos! A series of M.U.D. videos are launched on CCDC Art Channel for free. They explore and develop their own creative themes according to their interests, the themes are across diverse contemporary practices and disciplines. Creative Journal (Only Chinese version is available) The Artists’ Self-Training Workshop What will seeds grow into if planted in M.U.D? When we cross boundaries, what dances will our bodies do? Zelia Tan experiments with dance and techniques; Peggy Lam and the resilience of materials; Shirley Lok and puppeteer Chen Ying-ching observe cicadas; Bobo Lai continuously explores the body through deconstructing her old work from Terry Tsang’s perspective; Eric Kwong and Simpson Yau present the uniqueness of the body through Justyne Li’s sense of touch; Lee Ka Hei’s reflection on self-awareness and male body in media portrayal; Alberto Gerosa and Feng Jing-yi conduct an anthropological study of chicken-blood therapy… Define Undefined Redefining Is it a journey or…

Between stillness and rhythm, what will the body and the mind spark off? Pa | Ethos depicts the condensation of pure bodily movements, while Dancing Philosophy transforms thoughts into spatial movements; both works explore the collision and association between the body and the spiritual world respectively through pure dance movements and lecture performance. These exchanges let any boundaries vanish. CCDC juxtaposes these two contrasting works, inviting the audience to keep their minds open and eyes active. Let’s ride the wind, step into the cross-disciplinary yaw, and keep flowing. Pa | Ethos Dance at the Pinnacle of Poetry Amidst the aestheticism of sculptures, dancers set free the bountiful primal passion beneath with the optimum rhythm. Infinite possibilities are born between the movement and stillness of imagination, presenting a branch of aesthetics beyond compare. Inspired by Aristotle’s Art of Rhetoric, this work has toured 11 times in Italy, the Mainland and other locations before staging in Hong Kong with a special version.
