Ballet Jazz

Ballet is a well-disciplined training while Jazz dance emphasises free movements and individual’s musical sense. Combining two dance styles with upbeat music, the course aims to train children’s sense of rhythm, muscle strength and body coordination as well as enhancing self-confidence.

Ballet 

This course teach the basic skills and vocabulary of ballet. Group discipline, sense of rhythm and body coordination are also emphasised ; prepare to apply (CSTD) Examination or (RAD) Examination.

Mix Dance

The course is divided into three modules and targets for children aged 3 to 6 who have no prior dancing experience. Through learning the basic techniques of three main dance styles (Ballet, Modern Dance and Jazz), students will be more familiar with and interested in the art of dancing. It will also pave their ways for future choices in dance training.
Module one: BALLET – To let students know the elegant poise of ballet through the fluid movements of the limbs.
Module two: MODERN DANCE – To understand the flow and the coordination of body. This dance style also emphasises on self-expression and creativity.
Module three : JAZZ – It allows the kids to show their energy and vibrancy. It will help enhance sense of rhythm and build up confidence.
Elementary: suitable for beginners aged 3-5.
Intermediate: suitable for students aged 4-6 who have received Mix Dance training at Dance Centre for at least two seasons.

Contemporary Dance

This course helps enhance students’ sense of self protection while enjoying the fun of dancing and learning the importance of mutual respect with love.
This course has three main aims:
I. Teaching modern dance basic movement (e.g. jumping, rolling…etc) in order to understand modern dance style.
II. Inspiring students’ creativity through some relaxing games which also allow them to dance with their own imagination.
III. Teaching simple duo techniques so as to increase their confidence to communicate and cooperate with others.

Yoga Playland

This class is specially designed for pre-schoolers that bring a combination of yoga and mindfulness exercises. The benefit of practising yoga at this very young age will let the children be able to understand their feelings. Pre-schoolers will be led through fun stories, games and animal shapes to practice yoga poses for strength and balance training. The approach of this class introduces asana and breathing techniques to help kids relax, focus and concentrate.

Kids Yoga

This class incorporates more advanced yoga language and posture instruction at this level for children. Games, stories, and music will be put together into this fun and non-competitive class. This class combines asana and breathing exercise that increase strength and flexibility, improve gross and fine motor skill. Meditation and relaxation is also introduced in this class to cultivate the self-awareness and reduces stress level.

Jazz Dance

Chinese Dance

This course is based on the syllabus of the Chinese Dance Graded Examination of the Beijing Dance Academy. Students will learn about body flexibility and coordination as well as graceful posture. This course will let them work in team, realise their potentials in performing, as well as boost their self-confidence.

Contemporary Jazz

Contemporary Dance emphasizes on the body flow and sense; Jazz is an exuberant, fast-moving dance. This course has combined the elements of Contemporary Dance and Jazz. It focuses on using Contemporary Dance to explore the body towards various possibilities in movement and using Jazz to train the body’s reaction. It will also let students’ enhance rhythmic sense and build up their confidence.

Pop Jazz

Instructors

Graduate of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (Modern Dance)

Ma graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a Bachelor’s degree (Hons.) in Fine Arts, majoring in Contemporary Dance and Choreography.

She has been trained in modern dance, ballet, Chinese dance, Jazz dance, yoga, etc. She was awarded several scholarships during her study at the Academy. She participated in the CCDC Dance Centre’s WuDaoQingNian project in 2006 and 2007, and performed in several dance exchange programmes, including the International Dance Festival 2008 held in Bangkok. In 2007, she went to the American Dance Festival in the US for a scholarship, during which she was selected by the William Forsythe Company to receive training in the Forsythe’s Project. Her recent performances could be seen in Dancing Sketch (an outreach programme of the Hong Kong Dance Company) and New Dance Platform 2009 (Y-Space). Breaking, a dance she created, was presented at the Site-Specific Project – Build Motivation (E-Side Dance Company). She participated in musical production Field of Dreams (Hong Kong Repertory Theatre) in 2008.

Ma currently teaches modern dance, children’s creative dance, Jazz dance, etc in primary and secondary schools, and at the same time works as a choreographer.

Born in Hong Kong, Lam was the member of CCDC’s Scholarship Class and dancer of CCDC’s youth dance ensemble Young Sky and WuDaoQingNian.

She has performed widely with various professional dance companies. During her study at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts majoring in Modern Dance, she was awarded several scholarships and has toured overseas with the Academy.

She graduated from the Academy in 2007 and joined CCDC in the same year.

Malvina is the co-founder of Fellow Dancers. Her works includes dance teaching, performing and making choreography.

She obtained a BFA (Hons) in contemporary dance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2008. She was awarded a full grant from the Hong Kong Jockey Club for her studies at the HKAPA. Malvina received her MA in Intercultural Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2014.

Malvina pursued her performing career in London between 2009 and 2011. She had worked with company of different styles that opened up her vision in art and lead her to always stay curious. Malvina joined City Contemporary Dance Company in Hong Kong from 2013 to 2018 as a full-time dancer. During her time at the company, she has worked with many renowned choreographers and toured oversea. She performed as a dancer in the Opera

“Beauty and Sadness” under the direction of Carolyn Chao in April 2019.

As a choreographer and director, Malvina had created a solo dance ‘At that time’ in 2016.She explored time-lapse in her dance video ‘Move with the cloud’. Her commissioned work “Where is Romance Placed?” was being selected as part of Screen.Dance 2019, Scotland’s Festival of Dance.

Malvina is also a certified yoga instructor and gained her qualification from the International Yoga Academy (200 hours) and Creative Yogis (95 Hours) in 2020.

Natalie graduated form The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) with Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) Degree, major in Chinese Dance. During her study, she was awarded The Spring Time Stage Productions Scholarship and twice-awarded Disney Scholarship.She was the representative of HKAPA to perform in Italy and Taiwan .

Natalie has been a full-time dancer with the City Contemporary Dance Company since 2014 to 2020.She has worked with a number of emerging choreographers and arts organisations and has performed in a wide range of dance performances in Hong Kong. Her new work “Wandering Stone” premiered at 2016 Dancers’ Homework by CCDC. In 2017 The Hong Kong Dance Award nominated her for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Dancer” with her performance in “Travelogue”.

With experience of being a professional dancer in many years.Natalie understands the sensation of getting injuries.Luckily, she met yoga in 2018, she finds it is a new way to heal her body pain. Practicing yoga helps her to reconnect with herself bothmentally and physically, she determined to share and help those who also suffer in different injuries

Natalie is now actively involved in dance teaching and related work. She is also a 200 hours Yoga Teacher (RYT®) with Yoga Alliance and Certified Flyoga® Teacher. She is now studying 300YTT in yoga therapy.

Wei Ming-PAK is an independent choreographer and performing dance artist based in Hong Kong. He graduated in 2008 from the City University of Hong Kong with a Certificate in Fitness, Health and 2013 with a BFA (Hons) in Contemporary Dance from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

During his studies, Pak was awarded the HKSAR Government Reaching Out Scholarship Fund and was also given multiple opportunities to participate in the Guangzhou and Beijing Dance Festival through City Contemporary Dance Company’s scholarships.

He was awarded the European Organization’s full DanceWEB programme scholarship to participate in ImPulsTanz Vienna International Dance Festival 2013.Where he worked with USA base artist Trajal Harrell (RITE OF SUMMER) and Montpellier Dance Festival and Pompidou Center in France 2015 (The Ghost of Montpellier Meet the Samurai).

Pak has choreographed and produced works independently since 2009; including: One Minute Jumping Frames Dance Video Competition INNERMOST, ROBOT (Dance Video Works), LOST IN THE CITY (Site-Specific Works) which was invited to be performed at Hong Kong Arts Centre’s . TINT and INTERPRETATIONS 2 (Stage Works) which were selected by City Contemporary Dance Company to be performed at the Beijing and Guangdong Dance Festival. Pak has frequently taken part in cultural exchanges in Taiwan, Israel and France.

Ting Yan had learned ballet since the age of 4 and obtained the Advanced 2 level vocational examination of the Royal Academy of Dance. She represented The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Junior Dance Programme to perform in the 2000 Shanghai International Children’s Cultural and Art Festival. She received a scholarship from The Hong Kong Ballet Group in 2001, which she was sponsored to New Zealand for further studies. She won the Silver Award in Senior Girl Group 3 in the 2nd Hong Kong Young Ballet Stars Award Competition in the same year.

Extending her passion towards dance, Ting Yan started to do jazz and street dance in 2002 and contemporary dance in 2007. She won in Girl Nation with her crew Sisterhood in 2005 and Nike Women Dance Competition (Senior Group) with her crew GAP in 2008.

Ting Yan was a Parade Dancer for Hong Kong Disneyland in 2005-2006 and is currently teaching in various dance schools.
