DANCE SEASON 2020/21 Art knows no boundaries Creativity never ends
For our 41st dance season, City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) will present four productions. Contemporary dance education theatre, The Copybook of Life Challenge for Apprentice Magician, will open the season in July. It is directed by Melissa Leung, CCDC Assistant Artistic Director (Education), with diversified artist Tyson Chak as creative actor and includes selected excerpts of CCDC productions encompassing the world of magic and dance suitable for all ages. In October, Project NEXT Wave by three emerging choreographers — Felix Ke, Christy Poinsettia Ma and KT Yau–will introduce original and dazzling dance productions showcasing the creativity of young artists. For the second year of CCDC in Residence with West Kowloon Cultural District, we will bring a new version of Mr Blank to the stage this December at The Box. This well-received production, choreographed by CCDC Resident Choreographer Sang Jijia, premiered in 2018. This new production offers a fresh perspective and experience to audiences. Also, we will present dance theatre for toddlers in The Room, a chance to celebrate Christmas with your family and CCDC in a unique way! “〇”, a physical theatre by Xing Liang, anothermountainman and CCDC dancers, which was originally scheduled for May will be presented in February 2021 as the grand finale of this season. A Lover’s Concerto which was originally booked for February 2020 will be put on with Tai Kwun in September. Please stay tuned for updates on these exciting programmes!
Besides physical stage performances, CCDC is exploring online platforms to connect artists and audiences. “CCDC Art Channel” is a live channel on arts and culture dedicated to hosting various programmes each week, including interviews with artists, the latest on new productions and the Company’s classic works. Through offering interesting, entertaining and educational programmes, we wish to create a way for audiences to easily access information on dance and other art forms in Hong Kong. We held an online open rehearsal of physical theatre “〇” in the evening of the 30 April, presenting an excerpt of the extraordinary creation by choreographer Xing Liang, visual artist anothermountainman and CCDC dancers. You can relive this highlight on the channel.

The show must go on, whether that is in a physical space or online. Art knows no boundaries. While we deal with the Coronavirus outbreak, we continue to introduce art into life and to comfort our soul during this period marked by anxiety.
