INterstices
Discover the pulsating INterstices—an odyssey of contemporary dance full of tension and release
Space is both concrete and abstract: it is the tangible distance at hand, and the intangible boundary. Space acquires warmth and perception because it carries life. The body constructs space, while at the same time being sculpted by it.
INterstices is inspired by the sense of space in Hong Kong—dense yet full of energy. On stage, light, video, sound, and objects are used to create a flowing spatial environment. When people are placed within it, emotions, relationships, and stories emerge. These stories are not linear narratives, but they project tension and perception, stirring empathy.

“INterstices opens with the rising and shifting of the main curtain, sk ycurtain, and scenic panels, their movements slicing and re-shaping space through changes of light and shadow. These intersect with the subsequent projections, musical soundscapes, and the high-density physical movements that permeate the entire performance, weaving together into a theatrical symphony.”
— CHEN Pin Hsiu, PAR magazine (Performing Arts Redefined)
“Sang Jijia’s creation demonstrates a rare audacity, venturing beyond the conventions of mainstream linear narrative. Here, the body does not “argue” or “tell stories”; there are no associative dramatic plots, no familiar arcs, no music that shifts endlessly to guide emotion. Instead, the work returns to the body itself — a pure investigation of physical form. Sang reveals a particular gift for unlocking the dancer’s energy and tensile strength. Through sheer corporeal presence, he propels force upward, filling even the two-story expanse of the East Kowloon Cultural Centre.”

A Triple Bill
Three Renowned International Choreographers;
Three Visions Reconstructing the Body’s Essence
William Forsythe’s iconic work N.N.N.N. unfolds like a string quartet for the body—performed by four emerging male dancers from CCDC, it lets us hear movement and see music. In The Fountain of Blood, Hung Tsai-hsi draws inspiration from poetry and her choreographic reflections in painting, exploring new visualities in contemporary dance-making. LUNA, co-created by Sita Ostheimer and seven CCDC female dancers, awakens the instinctual and intuitive body, weaving emotion and connection through finely tuned, powerful ensemble work.

N.N.N.N.
‘A humorous vignette performed by four men, blending elements of mime and martial arts. N.N.N. evokes the image of four dancers standing shoulder to shoulder, touching their heads. N.N.N.N. represents the presence of all four dancers together.’
LUNA
‘A declaration of individuality by seven women, beginning with two dancers embracing each other. The costumes, in both color and texture, carry an Asian sensibility. Yet their resilience and bonds, their tenderness and ferocity, are meant to be universal.’
The Fountain of Blood
‘Emotion and energy surge toward the audience, inviting you to feel their anger and struggle. The overall performance is striking, signaling CCDC’s successful step into a new generation.’

Mr Blank 2.0
A Cross-media Art Integration, Assembles and Researches for the Truth
The tactile inspiration of Mr Blank comes from American writer Paul Auster’s novel Travel in the Scriptorium. In the novel, the protagonist “Mr Blank” drifts between reality and imagined virtuality, searching for himself.
Choreographer Sang Jijia brings the enclosed space inhabited by Mr Blank onto the stage. Sixteen dancers, each with their own story, all embody “Mr Blank”. In today’s life overwhelmed by electronic information, people seem to hover between reality and virtuality caught in intangible anxiety, occasional confusion, fear of the unknown, and longing for the world. Through dance and live visual effects, the audience receives a direct sensory experience while being invited into a space of imagination.

“Mr Blank 2.0 is, overall, a remarkable performance. With dramaturgical balance,
even though the props are intricate, the dancers numerous, and once they enter they
do not exit, the dance still unfolds the story with delicacy and order. Seventy
minutes run seamlessly without a dull moment! Among the highlights, the group
dance with chairs lined up in a row reveals a beautiful arc only when seen on
screen; and the scene where everyone leans against the glass to dance is equally
powerful.
Even on a proscenium stage, Mr Blank 2.0 feels more like an immersive performance”

As if Snowing
Listen to the fleeting moments of clarity, behold the refined beauty.
Every dimension of experience shimmering and pulsating.
Snow,
drifting onto the shoulders of time;
those fleeting moments, moments in wavering prime.
Tenderness carried…
carrying
persistence’s weight, gentle and bright;
breath, in – out –
tiny and deep, weaving into threads;
taste of life, afterwards,
facing the ever-changings;
a dance of deep echoes,
on snow we tread,
to future we go.

Dance at the Pinnacle of Poetry
Amidst the aestheticism of sculptures, dancers set free the bountiful primal passion beneath with the optimum rhythm. Infinite possibilities are born between the movement and stillness of imagination, presenting a branch of aesthetics beyond compare. Inspired by Aristotle’s Art of Rhetoric, this work has toured 11 times in Italy, the Mainland and other locations before staging in Hong Kong with a special version. Choreographer Sang Jijia’s exquisite sensibility and composer Dickson Dee’s spirited electronic music are welded together to reshape the poetry of the body.

“When these shifting lights fall upon the dancers’ bodies painted in white, a closer look reveals a lattice-like texture emerging unconsciously, presenting a unique sense of materiality and effect.”
— wenweipo
“Dance and sculpture, stillness and motion, seemingly at odds… yet on stage they converge, dissolving the boundaries of time and space. The inanimate suddenly stirs to life, as the body intones a hymn to ancient Greece.”

Certain Movements and Shadows
Amid the shifting tapestry of light and shadow, a quiet pursuit awakens…
Bei Dao pens the despair and hope of the city
Fleeting light shifts, shadows entwine – an elusive dance of glimmers and reflections
Poetry and movement intertwine; she, he, and his verses descend together
How do scattered fragments piece together gestures and shadows
To revisit an era of memories, a city, a place of solace, perhaps even the roots of life itself?
